Infertility
Fertility at a Glance
After one year of unprotected intercourse, a couple is considered infertile even though there may be no medical problem whatsoever. If, after proper testing, a medical cause for the infertility is discovered, then there are many healthcare options, including acupuncture, to help deal with the health issue.
Among infertile couples, about 40% are due to female infertility, 40% are due to male infertility, 10% are both and 10% are unknown. This is why, before a woman undergoes invasive diagnostic testing, men should have a simple sperm analysis completed to assess their reproductive health.
Female Infertility can include:
- Ovulation disorders
- Fallopian tube damage
- Uterus and cervical disorders
- Endometriosis
- Immunological factors
- Polycystic ovaries
- Ovarian failure
- Aging
Male Infertility can include:
- Low sperm count
- Abnormality in sperm shape and/or motility
- Varicoceles
- Hormone deficiency
- Sperm antibodies
- Ejaculation disorders
- Aging
Unexplained Infertility:
While the cause is unknown, these couples are still encouraged to try treatment. It may be here where an alternative like acupuncture can be the least invasive and least expensive option to try first.
