Dry Needling

Dry Needling in Raleigh and Chapel Hill

Dry needling is a type of needling commonly performed during acupuncture treatments.  In Chinese Medicine we call this Ashi needling and it is a safe and effective technique for patients with certain musculoskeletal presentations. Dry needling (or Ashi needling) can also be performed by physical therapists using acupuncture needles to treat muscular trigger points for the management of neuromusculoskeletal pain and movement impairments.

A trigger point is a hyperirritable spot or palpable knot in the skeletal muscles' fascia.  These trigger points or knots can cause pain locally or refer pain to other areas of the body.  Many of you have probably experienced these common types of muscle knots in the upper back and neck.  Needling into the trigger point can help reduce pain and tightness, improve circulation, and tissue mobility, relieving the pain.   Dry Needling can be a safe and effective treatment for a wide variety of musculoskeletal issues, such as neck, back, arm and leg pain.

At Triangle Acupuncture Clinic all of our practitioners practice Ashi Needling.  Jude Roman is a licensed Physical Therapist in addition to his Acupuncture Degree and has dry needling certification.
